Lab Workflow Automation Blueprint
A proposed automation design for a virtual lab environment
Digital Workflow / Case Study Concept
A blueprint and case study proposing how scheduling, inventory tracking and data entry in a virtual lab environment could be automated. Designed with a projected target of reducing manual administrative time by an estimated 10 hours per week once implemented (not yet measured).
- Planned — In Development.
- The 10 hours per week figure is a projected estimate only. It has not been measured.
01 — The Problem
Laboratory administration — booking equipment, tracking consumables, re-typing results — consumes time that is not scientific work, and the same information is often entered more than once.
02 — Objective
Map the administrative workflow of a virtual lab environment and design where automation would remove duplicated manual steps, with a clearly stated projected time saving rather than a claimed one.
03 — Approach — what I did
- Map the current scheduling, inventory and data-entry steps as they would occur in a virtual lab.
- Identify duplicated entry points and manual handoffs.
- Propose automation for each identified step, with the human checkpoints kept explicit.
- State the expected time saving as a projected estimate, to be measured only after implementation.
04 — Tools used
05 — Process
06 — Output
- A written blueprint and case study. Not yet implemented.
07 — What I learned
- How to map an administrative process before proposing any tooling for it.
- How to separate a projected estimate from a measured result when presenting impact.
08 — Limitations
- The blueprint has not been implemented. The 10-hour figure is a projected design target, not an achieved or measured result.
- The lab environment described is virtual; no real laboratory operations or data are involved.
09 — Skills demonstrated
10 — Project evidence
This is a planned project in development. The blueprint document will be linked here once it is complete.
